"If you want to see the stars of tomorrow then look no further than LIPA's 3rd Degree Music Showcases" Liverpool Echo, 2007

The 3rd Degree Festival has now been running for three years, with each year getting bigger and better. The festival is aimed at music lovers and the large Liverpool student population.

When the festival started it was advertised as Liverpool's most diverse music event, it featured a number of artists which since graduating from the institute have become successful such as Sandi Thom and more recently The Wombats.

The festival is a great chance for music lovers to see up and coming acts, with diverse quality music, that is emerging from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

So on to the first blog entry...

So ... 10 weeks till the start of this years’ third degree, which features over 35 acts playing LIVE over 12 nights in the Paul McCartney Auditorium. So I thought I’d give people a few reasons to come this year, apart from a having good night out and supporting the musicians of course.....

This year for twelve nights of LIVE music from every corner of the world a wristband will cost just £10, yes that’s right less than £1 a night! Bargain! Included in the bargain price of just £10 you get a USB wristband. This will have the festival program, links to the artists’ websites, photos and other festival essentials. (And of course something useful for after the festival.)

This years’ festival offers so much choice, from rock to pop, reggae to folk. So it’s worth checking it out and picking at least one night to see the up and coming talent on offer. And it you’re a music lover of all types then the two week wristband is for you.

Kicking off the event on 20th April we will have LOUD. SWEATY. HAIRY. Featuring three bands Kolyda (www.myspace.com/kolyda ) Bennet and Barberos. The night will begin with three drummers in a box followed by, in their own words; “Male fronted female rock!” climaxing with Heavy, hook-laden rock!

So a rock start to the festival. But have no fear there’s plenty to come...21st April will offer The World's Umbrella; The pulse of Culture. Offering audiences a fine blend of exotic beats and melodies hailing from different corners of the globe, featuring Subtribe and Property of Nadya Shanab (www.myspace.com/nshanab).

Then on the 22nd April comes IF: “IF is a homage to possibility. We urge you to consider “what IF today?” Because IF we could live our lives again we'd do it all differently, for difference's sake.” This night is sure to be electric with Electric Church Foundation (www.myspace.com/electricchurchfoundation), Foxes Know and Find The Escape.

And that’s just the first three days...!!!

The festival takes place 20th April – May 2nd 2009. Tickets are £10 for a two week USB wristband and £2 for one night.
Live music, twelve nights...come on, it’s worth a visit.............

On a totally random note; for any one into real metal music I hope you’ve already discovered Kingdom of Sorrow.........awesome (www.myspace.com/kingdomofsorrow). And watch out for up and coming Birmingham band Insanity project (www.myspace.com/insanityproject) who may feature in the 3rd Degree build up gigs.
